SPI and Microwire - standards documents?

Are the Microwire and SPI guidelines published like
many industry standards, or is information about them
closed and proprietary? I have not been able to find
the standards at the web sites of Motorola, National
Semi, or IHS, which many standards organizations use
to sell documents in the U.S.

I have a design idea which is possible according to
data sheets for some serial devices I have used.
However, other data sheets do not include the
information. With the sheer number of devices and the
possibility of changing IC's midstream, I would be
better off seeing if the behavior I want is part of
the SPI and Microwire definitions, or if it is likely
to vary from chip to chip.

Anyone have a clue where I can get hold of these
standards?

Thanks

Bob Pence

P.S. Are there no women on this list? I'm surprised
that some comments in the recent washing machine
thread haven't elicited some feminine ire. Of course,
if more of the gents on the list had to do their own
laundry and deal with the consequent logistics, I
think more would understand the logical need to buy
more clothes.
