New Stamp Editor

Anyone having random lockup problems with the new editor? Every once and a
while when I transmit code to a BS2E I'm working on the editor locks up in
the middle of transferring the code and will not respond. The mouse still
moves, but no other applications will run. If I kill the editor process and
restart it, it works fine. I'm running 98 SE on a Dell PIII laptop.

Also, the help stuff didn't work when I tried it the first time, but I tried
it later and actually worked> However, when on it, later it does nothing.

I have been having similar problems with the lock up. I found that
once I open the help manually from the start menu that it will be
available in the editor window when F1 is pressed or selection from
the help menu. Perhaps a patch is needed.

Actually, it appears help works fine if you start the editor and click HELP
and CONTENTS or HELP and INDEX before loading a file. Also, If you reload a
previously edited file by clicking FILE and clicking the filename from the
list above the EXIT menu item, help seems to work OK too... However, if you
load a file by clicking FILE and OPEN and then browse for and open a file on
the hard drive (but not in the default directory), help will not load.

It looks like the editor gets confused when you open a file somewhere
besides the default directory. It probably looks for the help files in the
same directory from that point on and can't find them. I may try putting a
copy of the help files in the code directory to see what happens.

The other thing I noticed about when the editor locks up is no matter if you
saved your code, when you reopen the editor the program name is not listed
under the FILE menu item right above the EXIT item. You apparently have to
completely / properly exit the editor before it included the filename in
    this list.

I did some further testing. If you want to store your code in another
directory besides the default one, copy the HELP.EXE and PBASIC.CHM from the
C:\PROGRAM FILES\PARALLAX INC\STAMP EDITOR directory and put them in your
code directory. Help should work fine after that.

Yep, I had that problem too. Clicking the Help menu from the menu bar did
nothing. Help comes up from the separate Start Menu item.

I am having the same problems with the new 2.0 editor running under
Windows ME on a Dell desktop. The lockups appear to be random. When
they occur I have to "end task" the editor and everything I have done
since the last save is lost - very annoying!
The 1.9 version has never given me any trouble and after a half dozen
lockups of the new editor I went back to the old one. Parallax needs
to take a look at this problem.

So far it doesn't seem to be related to power management or screen savers,
but who knows. I'm so gun-shy I save my code every time I have to resend it
    to the Stamp.

At any rate I wish they would do like OOPic and pop up a window advising
you to save your changes before recompiling. Its annoying, but saves your
    butt.

Just out of curiosity, are you running Norton Antivirus?

I do not use any antivirus software.
The lockups occur in about 5% of the downloads to the stamp and appear
to be purely random. At least I haven't been able to pinpoint a cause.
I am using a BS2p40 and experience lockups loading a single bank or
    multiple banks.
    The help works fine.

The references to the stamp editor versions should have been 1.1 and
    1.2, sorry 'bout that.

For me help does not work at all, even after applying all the recepts found on
    this list.
If I try to start help, from any situation, I get the message:
'4.74' is not a floating point value.
It seems that Parallax is better than Microsoft in issuing fuzzy messages.
I use windows ME, upgraded from Windows 95 OSR2 ( to have USB working).
I ran "hhupdt.exe" as indicated in "Stamp Editor.pdf" but I got only this
    message:
HTML Help is a Windows component and can only be updated via a service pack on
    this version of Windows
    Wich service pack ??

Ahh.... See, I don't get any errors when help doesn't run. You click HELP
and CONTENTS or HELP and INDEX and nothing happens -- no beeps, error
    messages, etc...

As far as the service pack, hit the
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/default.asp and select the Windows ME link.

    Hi,

I had the same 'floating point' error message.
The cause is a different regional setting.
For me in the Netherlands, I use the dutch setting, and we use
the comma as the decimal point. Changing to US regional settings
made the error disappear. This new regional setting however also
tampered with my excel spreadsheet: dates were displayed as MM/DD/YY
were we use DD/MM/YY, so I had to change the regional settings back,
and the floating point error re-appeared.
But they are working on it.

    greetings peter

I also get locked up, either an eternal hourglass or no action depending on what
I click on in Help; running Win
    NT 4.0, SP6a.

My PC doesn't lock up when I try to run HELP, only when I'm transmitting
code to the BS2E. The HELP problem was that help never ran -- you click the
    menu item and nothing happens.

You might try loading the editor and immediately use help, even before
    loading any code.

Sorry for the confusion, but I meant just that the Help window (not the PC)
would get locked up, which I would
have to kill to close out (via Task Manager or Process Viewer). Help does work
    normally if started from outside
the editor (either before or after the editor is started) by using the Start
    menu.

Just the same in Belgium and France.

You can hold on the dutch setting by forcing in Control panel, Regional
settings, the decimal symbol from a comma to a period and the separator from a
period to a comma. No other changes are needed and Word and Excel continue to
work with the dutch settings, except for the separators. Existing files seems
    to be automatically upgraded.

    Hi,

True, I can change the decimal point and seperators only,
but then there appear periods as decimal point in my excel sheets.
    Our clients don't like that.
So I await the fix from Parallax.

    regards peter
