bs2e power

I have a project running a bs2e powered by a 9V battery. According
to the manuals this should be OK. However I just downloaded the new
editor (thank you Parallax, it looks great!) and I was looking at the
daily tips and #3 says that the bs2e should be powered by 6-7.5 VDC.
Does anyone know if the 9V will damage the 2e? Any information would
be greatly appreciated.
On another note has anyone ever thought about connecting the stamp
through a USB port rather than a com port? I know it isn't currently
supported, but thought it might be a good addition...
Thanks,
Eric

Stamp manual V 2.0c, page 11, Vin (pin 24) accepts an input voltage from
5.5 to 15 volts DC.

I've rebooted several times - used battery and external supply. Whatever
happened was the direct result of the servo configuration. I've tried
reconfiguring the COM port but to no avail. Now I just need to troubleshoot
and figure out if the COM port is bad or the STAMP.

Hi Eric,
I often run BS2e systems on 12-14 volt battery power.
The voltage regulator on the Stamp is an LT1121ACS8-5, which has a
maximum input voltage of 30 volts. The limiting factor in most cases
will be power, not voltage. For example, if your BS2e is not driving
any loads, it draws about 22 milliamps. The power in the regulator
will be 0.022 * (Vin-5). Vin could be get up to 24 volts and the
power would be 0.42 watt. The thermal coefficient of the ACS8
package is 70 degrees C per watt, so the junction temperature rise at
0.42 watt would be about +30 degrees C. (hot, but not off the chart.
The calculation is approximate.) At 9 volts input, the power would
be 0.022*(9-5)=.09 watt, and the temperature rise would be 6.2
degrees C. (no problem) I leave it as an exercise for the reader,
what happens when the Stamp is driving loads that total 150 ma, + the
22 ma drawn by the Stamp itself. The regulator has to supply current
to the driven loads as well.

Those of us to program the stamp on the Mac use the USB port, via a
USB to serial converter. (Keyspan PDA adapter)

battery gets low, then nothing.
If all else fails, try powering on the stamp while holding the reset button.
I seem to remember this helped me.
