LCD Character Creator

I understand there may be a few problems with those trying to run or
download the tools package from Parallax. About a week or so to fix
things is what I've been told. The LCD tool software is one of the
articles in the Sept. Nuts & Volts. Although I haven't found it I
believe there may have been an older version of this a few years
back. Don't know if it was 100%.

Not so, it is a new program. There have been others, but nothing as
comprehensive as this one (supports 5x7 and 5x10 characters, and has full
help file with examples for all BS2-series BASIC Stamps). We're working on a
dedicated web page for LCDCC and you should be able to download it tomorrow.
Sorry for the delay, we're trying to make it easy.

PS: For those of you who are NOT using Microsoft Internet Explorer as your
browser, you must install it for LCDCC to function properly. Like other
modern Windows applications, we're using Microsoft HTML Help technology --
those components are installed with MSIE. You don't have to use MSIE, it just
    has to be present.

Are you going to release the code, like the stamp editor, so a Linux port
    can be done?

I suppose we could do that -- although my thoughts are that it would be
easier to reverse engineer it by watching the program work (it's very
simple). I make this comment because it's written in Delphi and (internally)
is very Windows-centric. Of course, Kylix users would benefit from Delphi the
    source.

I am currently learning Python and may use this project as my first serious
Python app. Python code would certainly be more appropriate for
    cross-platform use.

Serious developers are welcome to contact me (off-list) to discuss source
code disclosure. The only requirement from Parallax is that when compiled
for another OS, that version be made available to the public at no charge.

I would be interested in the code for linux, also.
    Thanks.

Once the program is ported to Python, it will be released. We've experience
too many support headaches releasing Delphi source in the past. The LCD
Character Creator program is incredibly simple. I'm quite certain that a
qualified Linux or Mac developer could duplicate its functionality in a few
    days.

Downloaded the LCD Character Creator, along with a later version of
Explorer to enable the install. Did run into a problem with the
display of page 21 of the .pdf Nuts & Volts article. Seems it would
flash for a second on screen, then gone. I actually grabbed a screen
shot of parts of it. Unusual?

There's an error with the PDF. We'll recompile and re-post. Sorry for the
    inconvenience.
