Digital Joysticks

Does anyone know how these work?

I am trying to use one for x-y position input to a stamp, but the
mfgr. won't share the information.

There are several chips in the base of the stick, so it is more
complicated than the simple analog joysticks. There are 3
potentiometer inputs and 4 button inputs. An oscilloscope display
indicates it might be some type of pulse width modulation, but I am
not sure...
