PIC vs. Stamp, Stamp Wins Most of the Time

Hey Pyro,

Your comment on price is short sighted. True this price comparison
does exist. However if you look at the amount of program one can stuff
in a stamp due to the tokenization of the program, the stamp will win
over the quote cheap PIC's. I have written many large and complex
programs which could never fit in a PIC in the compiled state, with
room to spare on the stamp. Think about it, a token is a compiled
instruction, which executes preprogrammed instructions sets, which
maybe called for many times. Thus the token which takes up minimal
space represents a larger piece of executable program in preprogrammed
machine code.

If you have used some of the basic compilers out there you can begin
to see the comparison of basic program size vs. the program size of
the compiled code and the space it will occupy in the PIC. One can
fill up a PIC in a hurry.

Many hobbyists are hung up on price as they count their time as
nothing. That will change if you ever get into a viable business.

Sure PIC's have speed, yet speed is rarely required for most projects.

If one needs RAM or EEPROM these can all be added to the STAMP, as
this is most often needed for data storage, for which even the PIC RAM
is insufficient.

If you really have a PICBasic disk, send it back and for 5 bucks they
will send you a new one.

I'm sure that you can solve your own coca-cola disk problems without
asking someone for a pirate copy. This by the way is not a good way to
impress anyone of your business potential.

Sincerely,

A devote stamper!

Well I can make 5 PIC controllers for the price of one stamp...
If I can't get my PICBasic compiler replaced, is there anyone that
can help me find a place for assembly?

Also, on a side note, there are some things that PIC's can do that
stamps simply can't. For example, you can't utilize the built-in
ADC's, and you can't use NEARLY as much RAM as the pic really has.

Even the lowly 12c509A has more RAM than stamp!
