Developing for Stamps under Linux?

Hi all,
I'm using the Stamp in a class I'm teaching this fall. What
I need is a development environment I can use with my students, and I
can't afford licenses for Windows/DOS/etc. I'd like to run Linux,
since I can do a diskless system that will work. Much searching has
revealed that (maybe?) some people can get the Parallax software to
run under Wine, and maybe under DOSEMU. I myself can get the newest
version of the windows stamp software to work, but not
consistently--it is very crashy software both under Wine/Linux and
under Windows NT. Under DOSEMU I can get nothing to work--debug
messages are a little less informative there.

Is anyone actively developing under Linux?

I'd be equally happy with a BASIC->stamp compiler and an
application to dump over the serial port. If anyone knows the
protocols for communicating and/or knows a way to get the compiled
BASIC I'd be happy to contribute to the development of a tool.

Thanks,
-Park

Can't afford a FREE download?? I believe Parallax encourages the use of
Stamps in education (hence, the Stamps In Class curriculum). All the
stamp editors (DOS and windows versions) are available for free download
    on the Parallax site.

I think he means licenses for DOS or Windoze, not the Parallax software.

In the real world you are expected to own a copy or have a license for
software installed on each PC. For instance if you have 10 PCs with DOS, you
are expected to own 10 copies of DOS or have one copy and 10 licenses for
    same.

you could use a proxima to display what you are doing on the wall. Students
could follow in a handbook. Maybe you could ask any student with their own
computer to bring it in so the others could benefit.

    Good comments stampers!
Freedos is certainly a possiblity--after all, that is the OS portion
of most distributions of DOSEMU. At this point that is untested (by
me anyway) with the Parallax software. Presumably it will work OK.
I'd still like to find a way to make it work under an emulator, as
that would allow me to run Octave (a free matlab-like vector math
    program) a Berkeley Spice.

The PCs we're using are surplused by my employer (Lockheed-Martin),
and for site-license reasons do not come with an OS. I have not
checked EBAY or similar for used licensed copies.
    Thanks,
    -Park
