Wheel Encoders

Hi all,
this is my first posting to this list. I have built a simple robot
using a BSII micro-controller. It uses modified hobby servos for
locomotion.

I want to add wheel encoders to my robot and think I have figured out
the hardware part. However, after thinking about how the software
will work I am unsure if I can do this using the Stamp by itself or
if I will need another small micro (maybe a PIC) to do this.

I would prefer to do it using only the stamp if possible. I fear it
may be too slow to do all the processing required though. I am using
subsumption architechture in my software design.

Has anyone else added encoders to a robot using a BSII? Do you have
some code that I might be able to see?

What is the opinon on the stamps ability to manage the above on its
own?

Thanks for any help,
James Fitzsimons

I haven't done encoders on a robot but, have tried it with a BSII using FANUC
quadrature hand operated encoder pulse generators. I found that if you try
anything over about 100 Hz it can't keep up with the pulses.
