My Norton Virus Scanner flagged the attachment to this e-mail as infected
    with the W32.Magistr.24876@mm virus.

Wow! I'm impressed ... my ISP found it and quaranteed it, then sent me a
    warning.

Usadatanet is our ISP. If they can do it, why can't Yahoo Groups?

I am with bluegrass.net and they chage any .exe and .vib (or something) to a
    ~exe and ~vib.

The owner/moderator of this list can simply turn off allowing attachments.
That's what the files area is for.

My ISP, Telocity (or whoever just bought 'em) found it also and
scrubbed the offending attachment. My Mac doesn't react to .exe or
    .vib anyway ;-)

I disagree. Attachments are routinely removed from another Yahoo! list I
belong to, with a small notice that an attachment was removed appended to
the message. It is an option that the list owner can select at any time he
chooses. Maybe you just want virus attachments removed - Yahoo doesn't do
that; but they WILL remove ALL attachments.

Sounds good -- we need to ask the list owner to do this for us. I see no
    reason to allow attachments anyway.

I'll forward this message to the list owner and see what happens.

I hope everyone remembers this when they are looking for a piece of code. I
have saved many bits of code, that was sent as attachments and learned lots
from them things I didn't need at the time but made good use of later.
If all you want is a chat, the make your self a chat room and go there.

True, but code can always be cut and pasted too, unless you want to send
    .BIN or .HEX files.

    1. Parallax isn't likely to select the eliminate attachments.
    2. It is simple enough to paste code into the body of a mail message.
    3. This group already has a chat area, as do most, if not all, Yahoo! Groups.

HEX files can be inserted into text messages just fine. All characters in
them are printable. BIN files can be e-mailed separately or posted in the
(oh my, am I really going to say this?) FILES section of this mailing list.

You certainly can, but big chunks of code take up al lot of space in a
digest and especially if someone REPLIES to that I have to scroll through
    screens and screens of code.

The original sender is infected with a virus that sends mail to others
whose addresses appear in mail he receives. I have passed this info to
Parallax and asked them to unsubscribe him for the safety of all. I have
also asked his ISP to assist him with his problem.
