Use a clamp meter adapter for multimeter. It uses a hall effect sensor
and a ferro magnetic clamp to concentrate the flux. Then use an A/D to
take measurements.

A clamp meter to monitor current is a START!
(actual) power will need to include the phase relationship between
the current and voltage waveforms. Power companies do this.
Industrial wattmeters are more complex than the household meters.

This is by no means a Stamp solution, but you may want to see what's
available from E-Mon. They have a nice line of meters for industrial and
    residential power usage.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

    Hi all,
I am attempting to use a basic stamp to monitor, log and display the
power consumption of an industrial building. I need to find a sensor I can
use to measure power usage (actual). Idealy the sensor/monitor would be
non-invasive, alloing for installation without taking down the whole
building. Has anyone done anything like this or does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Nick H

Also, if the current waveform is not a pure sin wave, you will need to
find the true RMS value instead of an average value.
