ESC again- Rating?

Hobby/RC ESC's are typically rated for so many cells and so many
motor turns. The more generous suppliers actually tell us volts and
amps.
Question: Most of these ESC's are "rated" at 7.2 or 8.4 volts. Any
reason to think they'll fry at 12 to 14v? Anyone have experience?

    My experience:
It's real neat to see them SMOKE.... but they'll only do it once!!

I have controllers that will run up to 14 cells and can be found that use up to
32 cells. most manufactures spec the
number of cells the ESC's will handle (1.2 volts per cell)

Is this that "do once" mode I've seen on some H-bridge designs?

Personally, I would build my own H-bridges or buy a robot-specific control
module like the MotorMind B or the kits Mondo Tronics sells.

The extra volatge would probably not be a problem, but if you run the same
amount of current thru you will probably excedd the power handling og the
    FETs.
