electronic speed control

I just deleted all the emails about the speed control
and am doing this from memory.

The electronic speed control you need to run the robot
is the type used in R/C trucks and boats. Generally
you have a 7.2-12 volt input from a large battery
pack. That is the battery to run your motor.

The ESC has a three conductor signal wire coming from
it, this is your signal and power wire both. Depending
on which brand of radio system your ESC is intended
for determines the color of the wires. If it is meant
for Futaba/Hitec then the black wire is your ground,
if it is meant for JR then your ground wire is brown.
JR and Futaba are two of the largest names in R/C.

The wire next to the brown/black (ground) wire is your
battery power to the ESC. HERE IS WHERE IT GETS
GOOFY!!! Some/ALL speed controls take 4.8-6.0 volts
from that big battery pack and regulate and feed it
back to the receiver to give the receiver power. If
the ESC is the type that takes its power from the BIG
battery then it will probably have an on/off switch
built into it. Again, if it is this type you DO NOT
need to use the middle wire.

The other wire is the signal wire, which would be your
positive PWM wire coming from the stamp. If you buy
any modern day ESC and it is this type then just hook
up the signal wire to a pin on the stamp, and the
ground to your stamp ground and rock on. I purchased
an external serial servo controller from parallax and
it made things a whole lot easier.

Couple things to keep in mind:
-Most ESC will not go straight from foward to reverse,
they pause for a second. Just keep it in mind if you
are using a two track system for your 'bot like a
tank.

-Keep that middle wire bundled up, I do not remember
the colors for the middle wire. I do know if it is
futaba the battery is red, signal is white, and ground
is black. JR is brown for ground. If it is a different
ESC like for hitec, the older hitecs had the signal
and + power wire switched.

-Check my website on GPS guided R/C truck, like I said
I used the external serial servo driver, made things a
lot easier. My truck also turned out really heavy and
needs a much bigger motor and battery.
