Problem with BASIC Stamp II Starter Kit

Hi,
I bought my BS2-IC Starter Kit about 2 years ago, and now I'm trying to
make my first small robot, but I can't program my BS2.
When I try to program my BS2 the software found 2 errors:
1. The BS2 hardware found on COM port 1 but it can't detect the chip or
something else, and that I should check the power.
2. BASIC Stamp not found on any COM port
I have my carrier board connected to the COM port 1 and a 9v battery
connected to it, and the BS2 on the socket, but the program don't find it.
Please, could anyone tell me why I can't program my BS2 and why the program
don't find the chip?
I'm using BASIC Stamp Editor v.1.096.

software was set to com 1. Come to find out 9v battery
was low but had enough juice to light LED.
