Hi, has anyone used the new sound chip from parallax?
I hooked it up according to the example that came with the chip, and
it seems like the effort of driving my speaker is causing the chip to
restart. I'm using a 8 om, .25 w speaker, connected directly to the
speaker + and speaker - pins. I've hooked up the QV400 +5v pin
directly to the stamps vdd pin, could that be causing the problem?
does it need it's own power source?
If the speaker is connected, it will start the demo sequence then
restart after saying a couple of numbers. If the speaker isn't hooked
up it does fine (I can see the output continue in the debug window).
Incidentally, the demo program that comes on the floppy incorrectly
has the constant for ground set to pin 9, when it is in fact pin 8
according to the other documentation and the marking on the chip.
Thanks for any advice,
Mark

module. Jon Williams says they board has a 300 mw amp for the speaker. This
translates to 60 ma, not including what the module draws.

The QV306M4 definitely needs its own power source -- the onboard amplifier is
capable of driving 300 mW.
Sorry for the error in the demo, it's being corrected. ·Luckily, the error
was a typo (my fault) in the comments and not in the actual code. ·As you've
seen, the QV306M4 is marked and shouldn't cause anyone a problem.

I HAVE THREE UNITS UP AND RUNNING FINE AND USED THE DIAGRAM THAT WAS
PROVIDED IN THE DOCUMENTATION. THE BOARDS HAVE THE SILK SCREEN OF THE
CORRECT PINS. I THINK YOU ARE DRIVING THE OUTPUT AMP INTO SATURATION WITH
THE SPEAKER YOU ARE USING. I USED A SMALL PM SPEAKER THE SIZE OF A QUARTER
AND IT SOUNDS FINE WITH THE DEMO AND OTHER PHRASES. CHECK THE CONNECTIONS
AND USE A SMALLER SPEAKER FIRST.

It's a pretty cool product BTW
