Hi,

hans got the point chris, it is so hard to keep track of backups and last
verlions so it would be so easy for me to just travel to where my pieces are
(say an exhibition) read out the code, modify it and send it back...
I know, theoratically there is no need for it but in practice... ;-)

If you can chose with the SX wether to secure or not, is there a chance to
read it back from the SX? If not, what does protection mean then?

curious, uli

Hey Rodent,

the world cannot be full of geniuses like you that never lose a code...
I am not one of them. Very sorry,

Uli

yes, I learned to be hygenic about the codes now as well...most of the time
;-) but there are a lot of old things like the TEDDY MACHINE, that works but
noone knows how... TEDDY1.BS2 or TEDDY7.BS2 or NEWTEDDY.BS2....
How comfortable it would be to just read it out now, but that seems to be a
dream so far. I am not really into assembler or anything like that so I
cannot try it myself but maybe someday there will be some nerd to find a
way...

Thanks a lot anyway,

uli

The best reference for the bS2 is Brian Forbes' book,
http://members.aol.com/stamp2book/
Highly recommended if you are interested in how the Stamp does its
thing, or if you want inside insights on efficient coding. With a
lot of work, one could write a detokenizer.

On the subject of reading the code on a stamp, don't forget that some of us
make a living using stamps. I manufacture a product that uses a stamp. If
someone could read my code that I have developed over several years, the they
could easily bootleg my product and take food off my table. ·I know that I
have wished I could read a stamp sometimes, but in the wrong hands this is a
very bad idea. ·Please keep this in mind before anyone makes this ability
readily available. ·And yes I do have patent protection on my product, but
every bootleg sell hurts. Just because it's illegal doesn't stop people from
doing it. If you wrote it once you can write it again, it SUCKS but you can
do it.
