Depending on what you need, the additional money for the BS2P is worth it.
More speed, less power consumption, and extra ports if you get the 40-pin
model. I've had no problems with my BS2sx, but had I known more at the time
I was buying it, I would have spent the extra money on the BS2P.

Great units, but the bs2E will do the same, only runs at 20Mhz, not 50Mhz. The bs2sx however is VERY noisy so if you intend to have your application EMC tested, it will fail. The bs2e is quieter.

I definitely agree with this. The builtin LCD, I2C, and one-wire
commands alone are worth the price of admission. If you don't need
the extra I/O, go with the 24-pin BS2P. It works with the activity
boards, BOE, robotics, etc. and can replace most applications where a
standard BS2 was. Those extra pins don't hurt, though....

Does anyone have any idea why my bs2sx has suddenly
stopped taking downloads on the robot that I last
    built?
I could download programs on it but it suddenly
    stopped.
Everytime I download to it it appears that something
has hold of my com port and I get an error message
that I should check the serial cable connection and
the power supply. The thing is that I checked them and
they appear to work ok on other robots.
Then the robot performs the program only once
although it is supposed to run on it every time you
power it(the program needs to be downloaded on the
    robot only once).
When I download to the bs2sx it says tokenize
succesful but download failed. What is wrong?
    Nothing
has changed as far as hardware on my machine and it
has been working some time ago.
    Thanks

Maybe the robot is just plain sick of taking orders from you!
Have you ever thought about that? How would you like to have
someone constantly downloading new commands into _your_ CPU?

Have you tried a brand new battery in the robot?

Does having a 'turned on' cell phone nearby cause problems?
This seemed to whock-up our Lego Robo's last week in a workshop with 12 'bots.
The unshielded external wiring was close to optimum antenna length
    for 2.4 GHz reception :-(

Anybody else seeing cell phone interference with this electronic stuff?

Is it OK to put a BS2SX into a BS2 carrier board?

Yes, the pinouts are the same, refer to the stamp manual.

    hi everyone,

a quick question, I have played for years with my bs2, cool mcu.
Well now I've got a bs2sx, also cool, well not cool actually, it runs
warm to the touch, not hot, but warm. Is this normal? It does run
properly. Also is it possible to "read" a program from the chip to the
    PC?

    thanks alot

Yes, the 2SX is fast. CMOS circuits have a switch from +5 and ground. In
theory they should never be on at the same time (or else you have a short
from 5V to ground). However, every time there is a transition, both are on
for a brief period and this is why the faster you clock CMOS the higher the
power draw. The current draw is small, but there are lots and lots of
transistor pairs, so it adds up.

Your program is stored in a compiled form that cannot be retrieved (in
    source form) from the module.
