How 'bout NOT posting any more virus warnings, and not responding to
those that do get posted? The furor and panic are more of a problem
than any email virus that I've ever seen.

You computer will not become infected if you follow a few of very
simple rules:
(1) Never open any executable file that you receive unless it is from
a "trusted source". EXE, COM, BAT, VBS, SCR, etc., and documents
that contain a macro.
(2) If you do receive an executable from a trusted source (even if it's
from your sainted mother), do not open it until you've verified
that your trusted source sent it intentionally.
(3) If you receive a file named something like nakedteencheerleaders.exe
from truelove@b... and cannot resist opening it, then move
it to a computer that is not, and never will be, connected to a phone
line.
(4) Do not boot your PC with a floppy in its drive unless you were
the person who formatted and created the floppy on your own PC.

If you can't make yourself follow these simple rules, or are extremely
paranoid, then buy and use one of the inexpensively available anti-virus
programs available from Norton, etc.

Yours in safe emailing,
-Nick T.

In this case following the advice in the warning was dangerous to those
following it and several responses saying so were quite
necessary. Otherwise your point is very well taken.

I forward chain letters, petitions, mass mailings, or virus
warnings to large numbers of others. This is my contribution
to the survival of the online community."

    Very, very sound advice.

Passing "warnings" like this one on is actually spreading the virus.
