Hi,
You are looking for "data books". I don't know if they're still published
by the chip mfrs. as they once were, or if they're only available online
or on CD's. You can try the web sites for National Semiconductor,
Motorola, Texas Instruments, etc. etc., but it's data books that you're
after.
Where are you located? I have some older ones that I no longer use,
and could let you have.

| Hello all! I dont know if this is the right place to ask this, but it
| would really help me if somebody knows an online resource (or a _BIG_
| catalog) where I can find info on chips by its serial number (a short
| info, just what they do). I cheked out some manufacturers but I can't
| find what I need (and i couldn't find a lot of manuf. sutes either).
| The problem is, I have a bunch of PC boards/ chips removed from
| experemental robotic equipment, and everything looks familiar but i
| cant figure out how they work, and I dont feel like throwing them
| away. Can somebody please help me????

Some Co. get custom chips made up. And they might not give out the info. You might have A little trouble getting the info that you are looking for. But hay good luck.

From that location you can check for chips directly, or switch to a mirror
location which may be closer to you.
Good luck with your search

The number you are looking at is the chip's part number.
Along with that number, sometimes you will see a date code, that
tells the year and month of manufacture. This can be helpful in making
sure you don't have a chip from a problem lot.
To answer your question, yes, if the number you are looking at matches
a TI (or anyone else's part number) the TI data should suffice. Chips are
made in all kinds of remote places today.

| Thanks for the info. I am located in NYC, zip 10034. And I have
| another question: If the chips are manufactured by some nameless
| malaizian company but the serial number matches the s/n of a TI chip,
| it's the same part, right?
|
snip....
the components.Data sheets give you the info you need.
