switching power and ground

Hi All,

Basic electronics question. I have these door
actuators that I want to use with the stamp. They go
in or out depending on which terminal is attached to
ground and which is attached to power. Is there an
easy way to switch the direction of ground and power,
or do I have to have a 4 relays for each actuator?

Thanks!!

    Hi Markallen,

As I understand it, the actuators open or close as the direction of the
    current reverses.
You could use a DPDT relay (double pole, double terminal, break for make) to
accomplish this reverse in current direction.
    See schematic below.

    / o
    / 1 |
    power
    o |
    A |
    |
    2
    |
    o
    | coil |
    |
    |
    |
    / o
    B | |
    / 1 | |
    |
    ground
    o
    |
    |
    2 |
    o

In position 1 the current flows through the actuator from A to B.
In position 2 the current flows through the actuator from B to A.
This would require 1 relay to switch the direction of power and ground.

    Hope this helps.

    Greetings peter.

    Hi Markallen,

Sorry for the true type font.
Here the reply using courier new font to make schematic clear.

As I understand it, the actuators open or close as the direction of the
    current reverses.
You could use a DPDT relay (double pole, double terminal, break for make) to
accomplish this reverse in current direction.

    / o
    B | |
    / 1 | | |
    ground
    o

In position 1 the current flows through the actuator from A to B.
In position 2 the current flows through the actuator from B to A.
This would require 1 relay to switch the direction of power and ground.

    Hope this helps.

    Peter,

Thanks for the advice, I knew there had to be an easier way to do it
than the way I was thinking.

Also, I'm always impressed by people who can draw circuits using ASCI...

    Mark
