(sorta OT) old computer

Hi all,

I have an old computer that would be appropriate for programming a Stamp.
I am willing to give the thing away if someone is willing to pay for the
shipping. (I just moved and am tired of looking at the thing sitting
around.)

Please respond to me off-list if you are interested.

It is a '486 DX2, 66 MHz (I think) with 8 Meg of RAM, a 200 Meg Hard
Drive, and two serial ports. It is in a mini-tower case that is less
than 1 year old.

It has one problem that I know of -- the floppy disk drive doesn't work.
If I was to guess, I think its the drive itself and not the cable or
controller card. I tried a different cable and controller card but the
problem still remained. I didn't have a spare drive sitting around to
try. Jameco sells new drives for under $30, but one could probably find
them cheaper elsewhere.

I think if one got the drive to work a DOS version of the editor could be
loaded and everything should work. 'Maybe' the thing could run Widows
'98 if a person did a bare-bones install from a set of floppy disks!!

You will need to furnish a monitor, keyboard, and mouse (if desired).

Please respond to me off-list if you are interested. First interested
person gets it. (Unless someone else is actually willing to give me
money for it - then it goes to the highest 'bidder'!!!)

Aaron

    Hi,

What is the closest large city to you ?

If it was near me (Philadelphia), I'd pick it up, as shipping is
probably more that the cost of the 'puter.
