As for the attachments, I don't mind, but I know many people do. There is an
easy solution, however.
Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/basicstamps This is the home for this
list.
You may have to log on with your Yahoo! ID. Click on Files and then select
Add File. You can then upload your file to the Yahoo server and post a mail
message automatically that you sent the file up (or do it manually).
Also, if you want to write up a Web page, feel free to get a free account at
http://wd5gnr.virtualave.net/wiki (or use GuestUser for an ID and guest for
a password). You can place Stamp-related (and similar) pages, pictures, and
files there very easily. Be our guest.
Another advantage to doing it either of these ways is that these significant
projects stay visible to new members (and old) without having to sift
through the messages.

keep the attached files bouncing back and forth. I am member of
another list where a couple of guys were talking about attending a
regional show and sent the pic's back and forth a few times.
And we all have our pet peeves. Mine is subject lines that don't
have anything to do with the text.
And don't forget there is a files section you can post your pic's
to. My pet peeve there is that the photo's rarely have any reference
to the origional post.

I want to express my feelings reading these e-mails about your project. I
think it is ignorant of all these people making such a big deal over your
article. If they look at what this stamp e-group is set up for, they would
realize that in engineering, the more you learn form your peers, the better
you are as an engineer. I spent 21 years before being disabled, as a
program manager
in R & D for the Navy and we went to other people to see what they were
doing in our base lab and possibly learned more from that than doing it on
our own. Some poeple might not be interested in the dash board, but to make
such a fuss about the file is very unprofessional. If they wanted you to
put it up on a web site, you can use mine or get them to pay for the host
server. I just wanted to let you know that some of us didn't feel this way
Sincerely,
Mike Mocenter

As one of the ones who replied, I want to make clear that in no way I
critisize people posting articles of any kind, even out-of-topic
(sparingly).
What I think is not appropriate is to send large files to newsgroups. It is
better to first ask, and if there is interest, post a link, send the files
privately, whatever, but not post it to a place where thousands of people
will be -forced- to download them. Please take a look at my previous post
about this, where I calculate the amount of bandwidth that is used up in
such posts, and I'm sure you will understand the motives.
So, please keep posting, but leave the attachments to other distribution
channels...
All the best,
Mike

Your use of Yahoo! Groups is subject to http://docs.yahoo.com/info/terms/
Don't take this personal, but you need to hear it from another source...
God gave us twice as many ears as he did mouths so we could listen more than
we speak. Look at what you said -- "we went to other people to see what
they doing in our base lab and possibly learned more from that..." The key
here is "we went," not "they came and rammed it down our throats without
asking." Does this clarify why some of us are annoyed with *HUGE* messages?
Most online forums exist to toss quick questions and ideas back and forth --
it is a learning experience that does not come across as information
overload. Think of this as water cooler conversation versus the president's
state of the union address. If this fellow is as sharp as he thinks he is,
he can find a free web host and download free web construction tools and
have a free web page.

When you spend 21 years in R&D research you are capable of processing
information at a MUCH higher speed than most. This is a gift and not a common
thing to have as a capability. Please try to understand that most of us do not
work that way and neither do our computers. I am glad that you appreciate the
information given here. My comment came only from a slightly annoyed state of
mind and not, as some seem to read into it, more than that. The reaction I
expected was an "oops" followed by him questioning of others what he might
have done that was out of place. Web sites are not that hard to set up as you
seem to indicate. Why don't we all take this as a learning experience and calm
down...I apologize if the oringinator took my comment more seriously than it
was intended. I am sure it was great information and HARD work to produce but
it did take several minutes to download.
