Hi Bob,

I used a 74HC165 parallel-in serial-out shift register to read external
informations via optocouplers. If you need more inputs for your Stamp, it's
what you need.
This chip is easy to use : clock input to shift the datas, inhibit input to
disable the chip, and shift/load input to read inputs / shift to output.
It's cascadable, so if you need 16 inputs, you only need 2 linked chips and
16 clock pulses. So with 4 (or even 3 if you don't use the inhibit input)
stamp lines, you can have nearly as many inputs as you want.
