Does anyone have any information on how to build a rudder position
indicator for an inboard power boat?

Thanks for your help.

I would use a simple 555 pulser driving an RC servo as an indicator. There
is a simple 555 timer ckt that has its output pulse width set by a pot. The
pot could be coupled to the rudder. The resulting pulse width sets the
servo position which could have a pointer.

Couldn't you tap into the rudder servos control signal and use pulsin to
    determine the posistion?
