Wheel Encoders.

Hello All,
I was reading the artical about wheel encoders and it
caused me to wonder how to implement this in software.
Since the Stamp does not have an interupt, I'm wondering
how to count pulses while doing other things like drive
motors and watch sensors.
Can anyone help?
