thanx very much,
seems to be very complicated after all...
maybe i should be looking for a standalone reader that sends rs242 to my
stamp...
still, if you have more information please let me know.

the prospect of attaching a stand alone reader to a stamp,
although I have very little time to work on it.
What do you intend to use the smart card for?
I personaly would like to make a simple door lock
that is unlocked by a smartcard - as a starting point.
-store a pin code on card, door reader/stamp checks pin code - unlocks
deadbolt..something like that.

In Belgium, and I suppose in Germany too, a serial chip card reader is proposed
by the banks in order to authentify the transactions from home or office.
This device is called C-ZAM and cost about 30(= , including VAT.
I have ordered one but not yet received.

PC by a window overlooking the Grand Place- ancient Roman cobblestones and
all - inserting a smart card, er, uh..C-ZAM..into a reader while making a
purchase onlne.....
Realistically, the smart card was proposed in a big way here about 4 years
ago due to the large proportion of fraudulent Internet credit card
transactions that are considered "card absent". Every now and then I read of
someone introducing a 1/2 slot reader w/ software for PC's, and even
fingerprint technology with a small touch sensor has been 'perfected' but
the PC makers never seem to adopt the idea. Most consultants are teaching a
new 'good practice' for eliminating much of this kind of fraud, such as
verifying orders over X dollars, and considering late night / early morning
orders more suspect...or...Perhaps the recent slump in PC sales has hindered
the new tools from being adopted. There are a number of patents issued for
this type of tool already...
Question, though: is the cost of the C-ZAM 30 BF, or dollars?

downfall of web sales. A friend of mine ordered about $60 / 12 items worth
of stuff from drugstore.com and has received 6 packages so far. Several were
8 x 10 x 4 boxes containing one package of cold medicine. I know its gotta
cost them $3-4 per package to ship -- how can they make a profit.
By the way, some online companies now require you to key in the three digits
on the back of the credit card to verify you actually have it.

I fear that it is only sold by the banks to their customers, as far as they
use this authentification system, at a discounted price in order to promote
the remote banking.
Up to now, I did not receive it. When I get it, I will search for a manufacturer
or distributor name and inform you.
