I just got a BOE with a Basic Stamp, and when I plugged it in for the
first time, the stamp got VERY hot. The chip that burned me was the
small chip in the top right hand corner with the big chip on the bottom.
I turned it off very quickly. :) It was put in there correctly, with the
big chip toward the edge. Can somebody HELP?

tell us the number on the chip? LM3940CT? It's a voltage regulator that
supplies 5 V. to the stamp and dissipates excess voltage as heat. It can get
hot depending on your voltage supply and current draw.
