The more I examine my options, the more a Wintel system appears
inevitable.

Yes, before I bought my X10 equipment (to remote control the solenoids)
I looked into the interfaces and 3rd party software. However, at that
time I was unfamiliar with microcontrollers and the Stamp.

Just as an override whenI'm not in the vicinity of the PC nd may want
to control switching to individual solenoids.
The reason the X10 interface had interested me (firecracker or
otherwise, X10 also sells a larger interface unit, though I don't know
what the difference is) I did have an interest automating switching of
the solenoids.

Cool. There is a universe of talented programmers out there! Over my
head though.
BTW Al, I'd love to see a repost of your archived monthly project of
Interfacing the Stamp to the Firecracker. Or lacking that, if you or
anyone has a copy, if you can forward it to redirect@e... I'd
love to look it over and do some thinking. Now that I'll be using a
Stamp, I'm seriously considering purchasing Firecracker.
Thanks all.
Cheers,

I'd love to have the url of the project. (I admit to NOT having
searched yet - just lazy)

Chuck Britton Education is what is left when
britton@n... you have forgotten everything
North Carolina School of Science & Math you learned in school.
(919) 286-3366 x224 Albert Einstein, 1936
has memory backup which can be used without a computer while the
firecracker needs the computer to be online. It seems that the unit alone
was around $30-40 while the complete starter kit (with interface, remote
tx/rx, relays, etc) was only $25! :o Look at smarthome.com and x10.com
I'd love to see Al's project of the month again!
