Hello,
I am wondering what is the best way to measure the rpm of a axle.
Would it be using the pulsin command with multiple ticks on the axle
or use only one tick and use some kind of timer?
U guys tell me.
Thanks,
Kevin Jones

I need a way to measure rpm without tying(stopping to read the rpm)
up the basic stamp. Is there a simple way to count the rpms and send
the data to the basic stamp some way. I have tryed using the lm2907
but i havent had much luck with it. any ideas?

capacitor (like a F to V) and reading voltage with RCTime.?

the stamp is the data to be read by a adc or serial input...
i need it to not slow down the stamp all i want to do with it is read
in the data because the program i am running is allready slow enough.

can measure and count up to 8 pulses at once. Most tachometer applications
I'm familiar with generate pulses. You either count the pulses per unit
time, measure the width of the pulse, or measure the gap between pulses. Any
of those things will let you figure RPM.
The PAK-VII never stops and the Stamp can read it at its leisure.

a 2.2 in diameter tire will make the car go 178 mph !!!
my guess is that might be the motor speed
there is probably a 6:1 or 7:1 reduction between the pinion and the spur
that would bring the
vehicle speed down to 25-30 mph
Richard
PS if CPU speed is a problem them measure speed on axle rather than
rotor (armature).

This processor seems to be the solution. Oh ya the axle will be
spinning at a max 27,000 rpm
I am using this to measure the speed of my toy r/c car.

ya that is a little fast for an axle speed ;) There is a median gear
reduction of 4.0 or 4:1 however you want to say it. And those rpms
were only the top of the line motors cuz i don't have the specs
infront of me. Um... Could you use the pak III processor to measure
rpms because if I understand the data sheet it can do pulsin pulsout
and it also is an i/o line expander, but does it have the same
precision as the pak just for pulsin?

other things) but they also do one thing at a time. The Stamp can do one
thing and the PAKIII can do another thing. The PAK-VII is ideal here because
it measure 8 channels at one time. It also performs several different
measurements at once (count and duration).
Hope that helps.

I have only used his pakV - and was happy with its results
i only deal with bx-24 - I forgot most of the stampII info
