Has anyone had any trouble doing USB to serial on laptops? I'm going to get
a laptop, but I can't find many that have serial.

and it has a serial port *and* USB. It works great via the printer port with
a BS1 and though the serial port with a BS2sx. Haven't had the need / desire
to try the USB.
You can also by refurb units at a much cheaper price than new.

I use a PCMCIA card from Quatech (www.quatech.com), you can choose it with
one or two ports, and it's very reliable - works with every program I use.
I have found USB to serial adaptors flaky, as some software doesn't
open/configure the port correctly. An example of this is the MSCOMM32
control from MicroSoft, which refuses to receive any data (TX is OK) via a
USB-Serial port.
All the best,
Mike

serial converter and the other is a single serial port. I have used them
both with and without a USB hub.
