Stealth Icons

Using Windows 95 and BASIC Stamp Editor Version 1.1 I get a strange
toolbar. None of the icons are displayed. And yet, if I position
my mouse pointer over their intended location, I get a raised relief
button outline and the tiny "here's what this icon means" message
box (still no icon visible). If I click on the button outline the
intended function (identify, syntax check, whatever) occurs as it
should.

Everything seems OK except the icons (the little pictures of a
printer, id card, clipboard, binoculars, etc.) aren't there. I
suspect pilot error on my part, but can't figure out what I'm doing
wrong. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Steve

    Rory-

Thanks. I'll just break out the fine tip magic markers and draw the
icons on my CRT until the fix arrives.

In a recent response to the same question, Jeff Martin replied:

    Hi,

We've become aware of this issue. It only affects windows 95 users
and is due to a missing feature in a .dll file that is installed by
Win 95. It does not occur on Win 98 or above.

We have found a work-around we can perform when we create the
    executable.

We are currently preparing a new version that should be released in
    April.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

    -Rory.

Can't you just copy a later dll to his pc and be done with it?

    Hi Parkis

We have this kind of problem whit Delphi generated .EXE in some clients
    with Win95.
I don't know if is the SAME problem...

They installed the latest Internet Explorer or copied the COMCTL32.DLL
and COMDLG32.DLL from another working computer.

If the Windows denied the copy, reboot in plain DOS

Save the original files as .OLD for eventual recovery. You need to do a
new boot after the copy process.

I think you can also find the DLLs in Micro$oft site.

If you want to get "original" dll's off a Windows CD, you can use the
EXTRACT command to find and retrieve them. Run the EXTRACT command to get a
list of command line parameters. The command line is about a mile long
though. You can probably do the same for any Microsoft product that uses CAB
    files.

Unfortunately, many software installation wizards blindly copy the needed
dll files without checking to see if the version on the PC is newer. Hoses
    up alot of computers.
