Class-2 AFJ Land Mines and BOEBot?

Hey guys,

Nearly done with my modified BOEBot! Just a few slightly off topic
questions:

As many of you know, I work in a highly radioactive environment. Is
there a way to shield the Stamp against nuclear radiation?

Also, local law enforcement agencies are telling me that my BOEBot is
illegal because it carries explosives (the C2-AFJ, for instance). I
keep telling them that it doesn't discharge any projectiles
intentionally, and only occasionally does the AFJ detonate, but the
cops are really being pesky. I figure if I test this at night, they
won't know. Since I don't have a test site after the last 'accident'
I'd mentioned about a month ago, I have to use my residential street.
It's fairly deserted after about 2AM on the weeknights. And I have to
use the real things (the C2-AFJ) in order to find out if the wheels
are creating too much motion. I could use some kind of mercury test
bubbles, but I would hate to find out that the finished product didn't
behave as expected in a critical situation just because I hadn't
tested it with the real stuff. And damn those things are expensive.
Anyway...

The problem is that the AFJ is apparently having a 'not-so-pleasant'
reaction with the serial communications on the BOEBot. It's probably
just a stray wire somewhere, but for some reason I'm having this
problem on every one of my last three test systems. I know the AFJ can
be programmed to set a timer for detonation via the serial port, but I
can't find the specs on their web site anymore. Anyone have any
experience shutting down the timer in a Class-2 AFJ Land Mine using
the Stamp? Their site seems to be down, so if anyone has the .pdfs,
I'd appreciate a copy. And when this is done I'd like to sell my 'bot
to the USMC. Anyone have any experience with that?

Thanks, and I'm serious about the AFJ mines, I'd really like to know
what I'm doing wrong.

-Chilton

I think there are several government agencies that can authorise this kind
of research, as well as provide a facility to test these kinds of projects.

On a personal note, I would really hate to see someone have some sort of
accident which led to stamps being labeled "terrorist tools", I am a proud
stamper and dont want to feel like I am buying pipe bomb components when I
    order stamp equipment.

Also, the USMC is the finest collection of warriors this planet has ever
seen, they employ hundereds of the most talented minds that money can buy,
with an almost unlimited amount of resources.....I dont mean to crush your
creative spirit, but they probably have equipment that can do the job you
    are working on.
I suggest you develop your stamp skills non-specifically ( no Land Mines )
and try to get a grant or research contract that will let you continue this
    research with government protection.

    just my thoughts

    Dave

To put everyone's (well, the few that emailed me off list wondering)
fears to rest, yesterday was the first of April.

    "A____ F____ J___ Land mine"

If you can wire up a stamp, you can figure that one out :-)

    Good one.

"Is there a way to shield the Stamp against
    nuclear radiation?"

    "it doesn't discharge any projectiles
intentionally, and only occasionally does the AFJ
    detonate"

"I have to use my residential street. It's fairly
deserted after about 2AM on the weeknights."

"probably just a stray wire somewhere"

    #define AFJ April Fool's Joke

    But what does "C2" mean?

As far as the Stamp not being "radhard" (radiation
hardened), this would not be an issue for those of us
dealing only with background radiation, where for
instance stray gamma rays, which could look like a
stray button press, can be stopped by paper, much less
    a porject box cover.

Moving landmines would be great. The radiation thing if your serious
is not what someone above mentioned. Alpha radiation is stopped by
paper. Beta by aluminum foil and gamma by a few feet of concrete or a
few inches of lead. So if you actually plan to use a BS in a high
radiation zone don't expect it to last very long. Try using some
military grade components instead of the normal(they have higher
tolerences to stuff like that). Keep on stampin.

PS anyone know how to get a BSI to work with the parallel port on an
IBM i-series thinkpad. I still can't figure it out.
