Conecting the Stamp2 to a labtop?

Hello room, I was wondering if someone could tell how to connect the
stamp to my labtop. It has a parallel, a video, and USB external
port. The wire that comes with SP2 kit, the DB9 to DB9 doesn't
connect to my labtop. I got an adaptor for the serial port, but it
doesn't work eighther. Does someone have any suggestions that might
help?

I bought a USB to Serial converter and it still dosent help.
Parallax told me that it would work but I forgot tomention the Win ME.
It seems to have problems with serial comms.
I wish I could help but Im in the same boat. I keep my old laptoop running
just for the serial port.

greatest Dell P3 unit and it has both serial and USB ports. I've not seen a
full-sized laptop without a serial port.

Give me a couple hours to think about this one though, I have a professor or two I can speak to also.

to serial Adapter with my Handy board computer. The only problem I have
observed is that if the Handyboard is connected to the Adapter, the Adapter
to the Laptop and the Handyboard is not powered on when I boot the Laptop,
it hangs. I don't know if this is the expected behavior so I've sent some
e-mail to Belkin about it.
In any event I have not yet tried my Stamp so I don't know how it will work
with my laptop. I hope to do that soon and I'll let the group know when I
try it.

I found that even a Belkin PS/2 mouse when connected to my Compaq Laptop
causes the same problem with boot up, the computer hangs up. ·As long as I
boot first then plug in the mouse everything works great. ·Haven't tried any
other Belkin products though. ·However, when I use a Microsoft or Compaq PS/2
mouse everything works just fine, no hang ups. ·I am now using a Radio Shack
Mini Optical Mouse which is USB and it works great as well. ·Therefore, I
would say that the problem does indeed lie with the Belkin products.

missing until I had it for a month and then it was too late to return it.
Expensive mistake. Like buying a car and finding out the windshield wipers
are an option during the first rain storm.
The laptop is also using Win ME. The USB to Serial converters do not have ME
drivers. I am looking in to loading Win 98 but Toshiba has not replied to the
question if I can use the current video, sound, power drivers with 98.
Sorry Im not much help in curing the problem. It is a pain to travel with 2
laptops though. The old Toshiba works fine with Stamps, but does not have
enough room for all the PLC and Industrial stuff I also need.
Help!!!
Thanks,

find out what video, sound and PCMCIA chipset you have, then look for 98
drivers. Chances are, unless Toshiba went with some new, exotic chipsets,
there are 98 drivers available.
I briefly checked the Toshiba web site and found some 98 drivers for the
2805 -- did not find video drivers though.

This is not normal behavior.

Manufacturers are beginning to phase out RS-232 and parallel ports on all
PCs in favor of USB.

USB to RS-232 converters will work only if the applications that
communicate with the RS-232 device use the Com port drivers included with
Windows rather than direct port access. Converters can also vary in how
much support they and their drivers have for hardware handshaking. I
haven't tried a converter with the Stamp and Stamp software yet.
