BS2 to BS2 through a base band modem ?...

Hello,
I have an application using half duplex RS-485
to communicate two Stamps...so far, so good...
But now the end user wants to use a leased line
for the same application....and here is where the
problem begins...I have learned that we are talking
about "base band modems" and these things are
synchronous (they are not asynchronous as the
"normal" serial ports I have learned to love/hate)..
and, also, they are not using RS-232 they are using
V.35 ). So the problem is...how can I use my stamps
to do their serial asynchronous talking through a base
band, synchronous, V.35 modems ?
The modems are Tellabs Martis DXX STU 160.
Thank you very much for any comments or advise
for quit this project...
