Power Source

I would love to find a fuel cell that could provide 12 volts at 2 amps for a
period of 72 hours. Fueled with something less exotic then liquid hydrogen!
Does such a critter exist? Are there any type of fuel cells available on the
market or do they fall into the 'real soon now' catagory?

    You could try http://www.bullnet.co.uk/shops/test/newpage25.htm although
they do talk about Hydrogen as a fuel - but they might have other things on
    offer.

    look at:

    http://www.hpower.com
    http://plugpower.com
    http://ballard.com

and ask - let us know if any are purchasable now... I think
some use reforming of methane or propane to get their hydrogen
    source..... good luck

how can i derive a +12V, -12V, and +5V to power up my chips from a wall adapter
    w/c provides +15V, 300mA? i need +12V and -12V to power up 3 LF356 opamps and
+5V to power up BASICStamp2 chip. before i used batteries, i used two 9V batts
to powerup the opamps and another 9V to power up the Stamp. The problem is,
    batteries run out.

can anyone help me with this?

    -Errick

Try All Electronics for some inexpensive power supplies.

    Errick,

One way to do it is to use two 12V wall warts. Connect them in series, and
the middle is ground. You can also use an old computer power supply, which
is cleaner and has the -12V.

If you can switch to around -5V instead of -12V for the op-amps, you can
derive the power from the Stamp itself using PWM and a charge pump. This can
be a cool option if you can live with the lower voltage.

I believe if you check at Radio Shack they have
some game controller replacement supplies that
have a negative pin on them. While you're there,
pick up the matching female DIN connector.

Another approach is to use a small -12 volt
switching regulator which runs off of +5.

Another approach is to use +5 to drive a
MAX232 chip. Use 1.0 uF capacitors, and take
your +- voltage off the Max232 charge pump.
I'm not sure how much current you can use this
way, nor how accurate it is...
