How does one go about making a visible laser beam with a standard laser
pointer? Is there a filter that you can screw onto the end?

Thanks,
Jordan

what do you mean by visible?

if you would like the whole beam to be visible it has to reflect off of
something - like dust or water vapor.

is this what you mean? or do you just want to change the color?

Chalk dust makes a good beam finder for photography, but it's not suitable
for a lab with any standard of cleanliness. Same for oil smoke. Steam might
    be OK....

I've seen a photographer take a time exposure and wave a sheet of paper thru
the beam to make it visible in the photograph.

Edmund Scientific (www.edmundoptics.com) sells a visible laser pointer with
a green dot, operating at about 532 nm. They claim that for visible use, it
is 30 times brighter than a 670 nm red pointer. It is expensive. Does anyone
know of other sources for green laser diodes (without a pointer attached)
    for OEM use?

Are you trying to create a visible line, or just a visible dot?

A visible line on a wall or target?

The cheapy laser pointers come with various clear plastic tips that generate
different patterns. Not sure how that works, but it does.

The other option would be to use a spinning mirror.

Look up laser's on the internet there are a number of company's making
laser diodes, the reason the green is more visible is because the Eye
perceives green better than other colors like red.

I think what he wants is to see the line from pointer to the dot I use room
deodorizer ( its what I had on hand ) as the vapor drops the line is
    visible
