Powering the stamp and other devices from one battery

Has anyone got any tips on powering the stamp 1 and other devices from one
power supply ?
Maybe a pointer to a book or website.
Ive got a wheeled bot and Im currently using a bank of 4 AA 1.5v cells for
the Servos driving the wheels
and A 9v pp3 battery attached to the stamp.
I have a couple of photocells, a speaker and bump switches hooked up to the
stamp
My next bot is going to use a stamp 2 and an IR collision detection device
that requires 5 volts as well.
I was thinking of using a 9 or 12 volt cell via a regulator with a 5v output
to power the lot.
Should this work ?
