IR detector problems, always works for me :)

I use the RS sensors on my robot, and have never had a problem. I do not
have any extra averaging code. I simply look for the transition, and tell my
robot to turn the opposite direction accordingly.
I do not use exactly 38 KHZ I have my IR output( 555 timer) detuned to, I
think 36 KHZ.
Sorry I dont have the code at work with me to check the frequency. I did
this to prevent picking up objects a long distance away. My IR output LEDS
are the high output IR ones sold by RS (276-143). I placed them inside the
Chrome LED holders
(RSU 11941804) The IR LED output assembly I place underneith my robot body,
facing out at a 45 degree angle from true front. The Detector module
(276-137) I place on top of the robot body. My body is simply a block of
wood 1/8 Inch thick. This keeps the LED, and the Sensor seperated.
I have never had a false detection, and the system has been bullet proof for me.
The tin sensors can be seen on top of the robot base, facing outwards at a
45 degree angle. Directly under the wood base are the IR output sensors.
Sorry I dont have any more details on the website. I just threw this photo
up quickly for people to see my arrangment.
If anyone wants further details I can send them the sensing code. I placed a
photo of the robot at http://mntnweb.com/hobby/stampy/
