Has anyone thought of using the small CPU cooling fans as a motor source
for small robots?

Yep.. I use a pentium heat sink with fan on my l298n motor driver
chip on my sumo robot.. It works REALLY good.. WIthout it the chip
will burn out. With it, the chip barely even warms up.

    Wrong meaning.
Use the motor to run wheels, tracks, etc.

No torque. Doubt they would drive anything too heavy.
