Flashing leds

Hi

I have no experience with flashing leds so I have a couple of questions:

- I read somewhere that there is no need of current-limiting resistors. Is that
right?
- Are two leds connected in parallel flashing synchronously i.e. same frequency
and same starting point?

In a more general way, is there any useful link on this topic?
