Hi everyone.

I'm a novice when it comes to electronics but I can usually follow
schematics without too many problems.

By trade I'm a programmer so I was drawn toward the microcontroller as a
mechanism that I could (reasonably) easily get to grips with, at least from
a software point of view.

What I need now are good UK-based sources for components and robotics
information. There must be a lot out there but it's a question of knowing
where to look I guess. I have a stack of books and they're all pretty good
but when it comes to building a circuit from book A and implementing it as a
module in project B, that's when I could do with a bit more guidance. I have
a lot of ideas in my head and it's frustrating not being able to get them
out !

So far, I've downloaded practically everything from the Parallax website and
have ordered parts from Milford Instruments and Maplin. The trouble is, I'm
not entirely sure how to go about finding the components that many of the US
websites make reference to as the part numbers are not always recognised by
the Maplin system.

So, if anyone has discovered a mine of information somewhere or found a
reputable components supplier that doesn't try to rip you off, perhaps
they'd let me know as these will help me in my quest to become a competent
electronics hobbyist.

In the meantime, I'll pay close attention to the messages posted in this
group as plagiarism is a useful ally in the war against ignorance !

Thanks for listening.
Justin.
