Plotter Problem

Stampers thank you for your help!
We built an XY plotter
driven by two stepping motors. It has a simple solenoid mechanism for Pen
up and Pen down. Formerly it was controlled by a 32k microcomputer NOW we
would like to hook it up to the basic stamp2 via an interface board housing
two stepper motor IC's. The existing computer lead to the plotter is a 20way
ribbon cable and according to the book...........
8 pins are tied to 0v, 8 pins are output/input, two pins are tied to 5v, the
remaining 2 are "control pins?"
3 questions for starters please:-
1. Is our aim feasible?
2. If yes! any tips on where to connect what!
3. Where might we find some idiot proof programming tips for
generating simple alphabet characters?
Thanks so much. Paul.
