damaged stamp?

how can i tell if my stamp is damaged?
i've connected it to the computer through the cable and the 9V battery has
power, i'm trying to download the program but i keep getting the 'hardware not
found error' and i've tried on several different computers so i'm starting
to think that something is wrong with the actual stamp or something...
how can i tell??
