I am using 6v battery for power supply. Both windows and dos
Identify the PIC as BS2 firmware 1.0 ( I presume returned by the
chip ) But I cannot communicate with the board. Any debug code cause
the error msg check serail and/or power supply.
The only two wires I am using are one to Vin and one to Vss
What I do not understand is : Why I am getting communication problem
using debug But if I use "Control I" to identify the PIC it gives me
the correct answer. In my view the serial connection must be ok ( I
am using 9 to 9 straight serial cable say 6 feet long)

reversed? Anything loose?
2) Is the 6 volt battery good? Is 6 volts enough voltage? What is the range
of input voltage that is allowable to the Basic Stamp 2?
3) What is the supply voltage at the output of the voltage regulator?
4) What is the current drain of the Basic Stamp 2 board in your system?
5) Have you checked your serial lines for activity? Transitions?
No guessing!
Good luck, Burt
common problem let us persue this as you outlined in yr response:
Here we go...

i.e., not
> reversed? Anything loose?
It is correct Why because I can get a valid response from the
Identify Function It states the correct PIC and firmware ver.

I changed to an AC-DC power supply by HP same result The output
voltage is 11.5 V dc The allowable voltage is 5-16 V at the Vin
> 3) What is the supply voltage at the output of the voltage
regulator?
See Above
> 4) What is the current drain of the Basic Stamp 2 board in your
system?
with the Battery at 6V it was 15-16 ma, with the HP power converter
it was 14-16 ma

It seems I definetly needed.!!!
PS is there a way to check the the CPU is OK? The rest of the
components can be check easily. As a matter of fact I took the BS2
out of the board plugged it in Breadboard with a tailer made serial
cable SAME RESULT
Another PS ( is it worth it to reduce the baude rate to say 2400
