voltage and current

I am looking for a way to safely measure and record the voltage in a battery
pack that produces 40 Volts and would be attached to a small motor that will
draw 40 amps. I was thinking of a voltage-to-freq solution, but was
wondering if there is an easier way to do this. As to the current, I am not
really sure how to safely measure this large amount of current. Again, I
was thinking of using some type of current to voltage op-amp.
