    Hi -

    Let's first check the chip - is it a MicroChip 93LC65B/P ??

If not, what is the Part Number printed on the chip ?

If so, please don't be offended, but are you sure you're
inserting it with the proper orientation ?

I had the same problem. In my case the chip was not seated all the way in
the socket. After seating the stamp all the way in the socket it worked.

I had the same problem. are you running in pure DOS. If not you may have to
restart your computer to the MS-DOS opperating system.

P.S make sure you are using fresh batteries.

    Felix -

Here are some things which may help.

    Hardware -

Sometimes the power provided at the port of a laptop is insufficient,
particularly if running in BATTERY mode. If you are using batteries
as the sole power, switch to using the adapter or docking port.

If you have a voltmeter handy, I'd check the voltage at the port.
Pins 2 and 25 at the port should show a voltage during Stamp programming
check to see what that is.

The cable, whether hand-made or purchased, should be wired as shown
    in the MANUAL:

    · OEM BS1 PCI to PC Parallel Port Pin 2 (D0)
    · OEM BS1 PCO to PC Parallel Port Pin 11 (Busy)
    · OEM BS1 Vss to PC Parallel Port Pin 25 (Gnd)

    Software-

STAMP.EXE is the appropriate program for programming the PBASIC Stamp BS-1.
This is a DOS program and must be run in DOS mode, there is NO WINDOWS
    Editor for the BS-1.

    General -

Make sure all ICs are properly socketed, and PIN 1 is oriented properly.

Check all solder joints thoroughly for possible poor connections.

Make SURE all design notes have been considered, as outline in the
    OEM BS-1 MANUAL.

Lastly, I suspect the posts to which you make reference may have been
speaking of the serial port and BS-2 Stamp programming.

Hope that gets it back on track for you.

    Bruce Bates
