I am working on modifying an old robot using some professional quality
electronics and I am stuck with two things:

1- I need a 6 functions RF remote control with some 75 ft of range.
2- I need a voice modulator unit that take regular voice and convert
it into different form by shifting frequency and waveform to resemble
an alien or something like that. R. Shack use to have something like
that but no more.

The robot itself will be cotrolled by a BS2, but cannot figure out a
way of modulating the live voice with it and would rather do that with
a commercial unit if that exist somewhere.

I would appreciate any help.

What was the original platform ? Certain modifications to robots like the
    HERO II
came out by 3rd party sources and they were available long after the HERO
    was discontinued by Heath.

Unless I'm missing something in your requirement, any 4-6 channel R/C
transmitter and receiver will MORE than meet this goal. The number of
channels will depend on what you are using them for and how you define
    "functions".

I'm hesitant to ask this but - What does an alien sound like ?

There are various noise circuits, sound cards and sound chips available.
Some are as simple as a few diodes used in an appropriate manner, but much
will depend on the exact type of sound you wish to produce. From a purely
practical point of view (although audio it NOT my forte) I would like to
believe that an audio mixer of some sort could combine any two sounds that
    you wish - even with
    a PC sound card.

Describing the sound you wish to impress or combine with the voice,
    would be most helpful.

    Thanks Bruce

I need an on/off wirless and not analog signal like a typical RC
controller for an airplane or a car works. This will basically
controll 6 relays in the robot. I know that I can buy car remotes for
doors and truncs but that usually provides only 2 functions and to buy
three of them will be over $100. This price is not a problem but it
is rather awckward to mount it.

as to the voice, I need it to sound digital of some sort. This way
the operator of the robot, some 30 feet away, can speak through the
robot with a non-human voice. Now I don't have lots of room in the
robot to place lots of big components, and a mixer would be pretty big
    for the space I have.

Do you know of a 6-function or more RC wireless, and can you recommend
specific circuits or devices I can buy for the sound. I found a
device called the VFX Digital Processor
at http://www.tidaleng.com/vfx.htm, and I have sent for info, but
really not sure if there wasn't an easier way.

    many thanks

    Al

    Al,

Radio Shack sells a voice changer kit using (I believe) the
Holtek HT8950 voice manipulation IC. It's RS catalog number
    990-0147, and costs $14.95.

There was also an article in the 7/99 Nuts & Volts with a
voice altering circuit that used this IC.

It would be fairly easy to make an on/off multi channel remote using the
    RWS/TWS-434 modules from Rentron
http://www.rentron.com/rf_remote_control.htm Use a Stamp of a PIC to read
some switches and transmit codes for each switch in each state. On the
receiving end just looping through the received data and activate or
deactivate the relay based on the code you get. The RF modules are only
    $6.50 each.
