video switch

I'm building a kind of video matrix for an installation and i need to find
switches that will enable me two switch between two video sources without
too many impact on the video output signal ( a clean cut as possible). must
be trigger by a 5V maximum. any suggestion will be welcome.

thanks.

Check Maxim - they have some nice video Muxes I've used for projects.

    www.maximic.com

They are also generous with samples.

I am not sure how clean you want the cut, but you can get a very cheap
manual switch from R. Shack, which allows switching between 4 sources.
It is no more than $30. You can then cut it open and replace the
mechanical switches with relays, provided of course that you build the
necessary circuit to protect the stamp from and spikes.

    Good luck

Note to get a clean switch between two video sources you must have both video
sources syncronized or use a digital processing time correction chip to match
    sync. intervals

    Hi Emile,

A few years ago I made a little system with 4 video/audio inputs and 2
auxiliary audio inputs. The switching between the video inputs was simply
made with 4 little relays. Of course, you can see when the inputs are
switched, but it's not too bad if you consider the price of a professional
    device.
If you like, I can send you a schematic of this system.

    Best regards,

    Phil.

Maxim makes a line of ICs for this.

In order to have clean cuts both video sources must be in phase, or
genlocked - that mean they are running with same sync timing. For B&W
sources only vertical sync or line (mains 60Hz) lock is OK, but for
color and if cuts includes some type of wipes or pic in pic the sources
must be also horizontal sync and color burst genlocked. Otherwise you
will see color flicking artifacts. Professional tabletop equipment uses
a frame syncronizer or an infinite time base corrector (TBC).

    hello phil.

thanks for your answer. Since i looking for a cheap way to do this i will
have to go the way you did... so i will greatly appreciate if you can send
me a shematic of the system that you design.

    thank you very much.

OK Emile, I'll send you that. Do you use Orcad ?
