Capacitor Question

I have a capacitor, or what I believe to be one, it says 1.0J
250MEF. Can anyone tell me if it is indeed a capacitor or something
else. It was in a Shamrock monitor that smoked, yet oddly still
works. heh. Pic here: http://gliebetronics.com/cap/pic.jpg
If it were a capacitor would it not have a uF or MFD rather than a
J? This is an item that Jameco would have? Sorry for being slightly
off topic.
Another more relavant thing I have to mention, I have used my BS2 to
create a video switcher. Used it to allow people to see two different
camera views on my web cam, http://tigercam.cjb.net for x-mas day but
it is still up right now. changes views every 30 sec.
thanks,
-Dan

nomenclature, which could tell you the type of dielectric and construction.
Component markings are often cryptic...
