First of all Hapy Holidays everyone!!
I do have a pretty large stash of old computers here at my house, mostly ones that I saved from their certain doom after I got their owners a new system.· My question is this, what do you folks generaly salvage from old computer systems?· Ive yanked the LED's, jumpers and some capaciters etc but is there anything else there I could use?· The BIOS maybe?· Clock?· Anyone know how to interface a basic stamp with old 30 pin sticks of RAM?· Heck how about some good projects of using the whole motherboard?
Thanks!!

Generally they call those things boat anchors : )
In my experience the most useful part of old pc's are the stepper motors
found in the floppy diskettes. They are generally pretty rugged, usually
operate
at a voltage and amperage range which is reasonable, and they have the
precision required for most hobbyist projects.

There is little that can be done with most of that stuff, but if you find
any Dallas Semiconductor chips, or Philips chips, they MIGHT be worth
cross-referencing. The memory is essentially useless, since both the speed
and the format is generally NOT Stamp compatible. Laptops MIGHT be a
separate consideration mostly due to the battery and the battery operated
features.

Put it back together and use it either as a basis for a mobile platform,
using a programming language which is appropriate to the task, or use it
just to program Stamps. I use a separate Windows based PC near my work
bench, so I'm not interfering with my primary system. If it blows up, or
the power supply gets inadvertently shorted - I care less.

You probably _don't_ care less (maybe you don't care at all) <g>
