Beginner problem - parallel port conection

Hi all
I just started with the basic stamp. I have a problem with the
connection between my laptop and the stamp. I use BOE with stamp2. I
have power supply set (9 volt battery, and the power light is on). I
connected the parallel port, but when I set the 'run' command i get
an error message:
'Basic stampII not responding on Com1'
1. Check serial cable connection
2. check power supply
I checked both, and ther are ok.
I use win2000, with the stamp editor for windows: Stampw_v1_096.exe
Any advise will be appreciated
Thanks

Hi Oren -
The BASIC Stamp 2 uses the SERIAL PORT, NOT the parallel port for programming.
You may be viewing the FIRST part of the manual which addresses the
requirements of the BASIC Stamp 1.
You also may wish to download new documentation, and a new Editor. Both
were released over the last week. You CAN use what you have, but the
UPDATED Manual shows ALL COMMANDS and procedures together, annotating each.
These can both be found in the Documentation of the Parallax web site
[ http://www.parallaxinc.com ]. I suspect with that you SHOULD be on your way.
Shout back later if there are other difficulties you encounter.
Regards,
Bruce Bates
1. Make sure that in the stamp editor you choose BS2SX. The default
is just BS2 and it won't work
2. The programs extensions should be .bsx and not .bs2
3. If non of the above works go to the settings of your serial port. There
you have the option to modifiy the settings in orther to have a reliable
communication rather than an efficient one.
I am pretty sure that with this suggestions you will be able to run it,
since i had the same problem.
Regards
Edgar

It's working now!
My problem was that I miss-placed the StampII module on the carrier
board. I pluged it in in a reversed order...
The right order is when the biggest chip on the module is facing
the 'reset' button and not the battery...
Thanks everybody for the help!
Bye
Oren
Last time I reversed an IC, I got light, smoke, plus a piece of the IC in my
face...
It was not a Stamp...
Enjoy Stampin' !
Phil.
